Flyers shut out Devils
Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 17 shots for this third straight shutout and fourth in five games to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-0 win over the visiting New Jersey Devils Tuesday night. Bryzgalov stretched his shutout streak to more than 196 minutes and has stopped 152 of 154 shots.
Lightning's Stamkos scores 50th
Steven Stamkos scored twice to reach 50 goals in a season for the second time, and the host Tampa Bay Lightning jumped out to a big early lead and beat the Boston Bruins, 6-1.

SMU fires Doherty
SMU has fired men's basketball coach Matt Doherty after six seasons. Doherty, a Long Island native who played for Holy Trinity High School and for North Carolina, went 13-19 this year and 80-109 in six years with SMU. Doherty is a former national coach of the year at North Carolina. He coached the Tar Heels for three years until he was pressured to resign in April 2003.
AUTO RACINGKnaus penalty upheld
Chad Knaus, the crew chief for five-time champion Jimmie Johnson, lost his appeal challenging penalties for failing the opening day inspection at the Daytona 500. Team owner Rick Hendrick said the team will appeal to the National Stock Car Racing chief appellate officer, and Knaus will work this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Knaus was suspended six races and fined $100,000, Johnson was docked 25 points and car chief Ron Malec also was suspended six races.
