Munoz takes lead at LPGA Classic

Azahara Munoz shot a 7-under 65 yesterday to take a one-stroke lead over Katherine Hull and Jee Young Lee in the Bell Micro LPGA Classic opening round in Mobile, Ala., the LPGA Tour's first event since golfer Erica Blasberg was found dead. Munoz had a bogey-free round on The Crossings course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Magnolia Grove complex . . . Matt Jones eagled the par-5 14th hole and finished with a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Texas Open in San Antonio.

Montreal mayhem after Canadiens' win

Police say 41 people have been arrested in the mayhem after the Montreal Canadiens' Game 7 victory over Pittsburgh. Some stores were looted and police fired tear gas at hundreds of bottle-tossing fans after Wednesday night's game in which the Canadiens ousted the defending champions to reach the Eastern Conference final.

'Dream' sale

Don and Becky Lansing, the owners of the "Field of Dreams" site near Dyersville, Iowa, where the field was built by Universal Studios, said they're selling the property. The asking price is $5.4 million.

Fordham's Mineau tosses perfect game

Sophomore Jen Mineau struck out 12 and tossed a perfect game, lifting Fordham to a 1-0 win over Charlotte in an Atlantic 10 Conference softball tournament game. It was the first perfect game in the 27-year history of the A-10 Tournament.

Holdsclaw seeks trade

Dream coach Marynell Meadors said that six-time All-Star Chamique Holdsclaw (Christ the King) has asked Atlanta to trade her. Holdsclaw called Meadors three days prior to training camp and requested a trade.

Federer, Nadal advance

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Masters with straight-set victories. The top-ranked Federer beat Swiss countryman Stanislas Wawrinka, 6-3, 6-1, and the second-ranked Nadal cut down big-serving American John Isner, 7-5, 6-4. - AP
