TENNISSerena injures ankle
Playing in her first tournament since losing the U.S. Open final in September, Serena Williams twisted her left ankle Wednesday during a victory over Bojana Jovanovski in Brisbane, Australia, putting her appearance in this month's Australian Open in doubt.
After winning the quarterfinal, a limping Williams withdrew from the Brisbane tournament.
The Australian Open starts Jan. 16.
Hurd indicted
A federal grand jury indicted former Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd on drug conspiracy and possession charges after he and another man were accused of trying to establish a drug-dealing network.
NBAPierce leads Celtics' rout of Nets
Paul Pierce scored 24 points to lead the host Celtics to an 89-70 victory over the Nets. New Jersey played without Deron Williams (sore ankle) and Kris Humphries (sore shoulder). Ray Allen (illness) sat out for the Celtics.
Ginobili out for 2 months
Spurs guard Manu Ginobili will undergo surgery on his broken left hand and is expected to miss at least two months. Ginobili, 34, injured the hand Monday night . . . Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph is expected to miss six to eight weeks after tearing a ligament in his right knee during Sunday's loss to the Bulls . . . Three-team trade
Philadelphia, Memphis and New Orleans agreed on a multiplayer trade.
