SOCCERRed Bulls win
Luke Rodgers' goal in the 22nd minute gave the Red Bulls a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City Saturday at Red Bull Arena. Rodgers converted a cross from Dwayne Rosario. The Red Bulls (4-1-2) lead the Major League Soccer nine-team Eastern Conference with 14 points. It was the Red Bulls' third straight shutout.
NASCARBusch denies sweep
Kyle Busch won at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway to deny teammate Denny Hamlin a weekend sweep at his home track. It is Busch's third straight victory in the spring race at Richmond and his second Sprint Cup Series win this year.
Hamlin settled for second, giving Joe Gibbs Racing a sweep of the top two spots. Hamlin won his charity race at RIR on Thursday night, then added a victory in Friday night's Nationwide race to set himself up for a potential sweep.
FIGURE SKATING
Japan's Ando wins
Miki Ando of Japan won the world figure skating championships in Moscow after overcoming Olympic gold medalist Kim Yu-na.
The victory by the Japanese skater came in a competition that was scheduled in her homeland before the earthquake and tsunami in March.
In ice dance, Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the first world gold for the United States in the discipline.
COLLEGE HOOPSMason hires Hewitt
George Mason hired former Georgia Tech basketball coach Paul Hewitt to replace Jim Larranaga, who left this month for the University of Miami. Hewitt, who grew up in Westbury and coached at Westbury High School, was fired by Georgia Tech last month. He took the Yellow Jackets to the Final Four in 2004, but that was the only season he had a winning record in ACC play.-- AP
