Cushing's steroids ban leads
to new vote for rookie award
The Associated Press will re-do the vote for Defensive Rookie of the Year because the winner, Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, recently was suspended for four games for violating the league's steroids policy.
Cushing easily won the original vote, earning 39 of 50 first-place votes. Bills safety Jairus Byrd was next with six. Cushing is the third NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year to be suspended for steroids, joining Shawne Merriman (2005) and Julius Peppers (2002).

IOC to recheck '06 samples
Olympic officials are retesting some doping samples from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin to check for use of the blood-boosting drug CERA. Police in Henderson, Nev., and an agent for Erica Blasberg, 25, say the LPGA Tour golfer has died. Police said authorities were investigating her Sunday death. It was not clear whether foul play was involved. Blasberg played her only LPGA Tour event this year two weeks ago in Mexico and tied for 44th.
