Reyes goes yard three times
Jose Reyes, known more for his speed and base-stealing prowess, showed off some power and became the seventh Met to crank three homers in a game in the Mets' 11-4 loss to the Phillies. Reyes went 3-for-3 with a walk and drove in all four of the Mets' runs at Citizens Bank Park. The shortstop crushed solo homers in the first and third innings off starter Randy Wolf, and hit a two-run shot in the eighth off Brian Sanches for his 14th of the year. In doing so, he joined Jim Hickman, Dave Kingman, Caudell Washington, Darryl Strawberry, Gary Carter and Edgardo Alfonzo as the only Mets to have accomplished the feat. Reyes had his best season, posting careers highs with a .300 average, 19 homers, 81 RBIs and 122 runs in helping the Mets reach the National League Championship Series.
