Muhammad Ali fails at the Garden
Having correctly called the round in which he would knock his opponent out in nine straight fights starting in 1961, a 21-year-old Cassius Clay had his streak snapped by Doug Jones at Madison Square Garden. Clay predicted Jones would go down in the fourth, but the drag-out bout went 10 rounds. Clay won a unanimous decision (though it was disputed) and raised his record to 18-0. Ring Magazine rated it the "Fight of the Year."
