Maris and Mantle most prolific duo
Roger Maris hits his 56th home run of the season off Cleveland's Mudcat Grant in an 8-7 comeback win against the Indians at Yankee Stadium. Maris and Mickey Mantle (52) now hold the record for the most single-season home runs by a pair of teammates (108). The previously mark was set in 1927 by another pair of Yanks: Babe Ruth (60) and Lou Gehrig (47).
