The spring performance of Zach Britton didn't warrant the lefthander beginning the season at Triple-A. The Orioles did send him down, but the injury to Brian Matusz brought him to the majors. Britton was terrific in his debut against the Rays, but was even more dazzling in his second start Saturday against the Rangers.

The Rangers offense is explosive and Camden Yards is certainly a good park to hit, in but Britton shut them down and ended the Rangers' six-game winning streak. Britton went 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits, three walks, and struck out two to improve to 2-0.

Britton didn't have great strikeout rates in the minors. He's an extreme ground ball pitcher mainly because of his low 90s sinker. He induced 14 against the Rangers compared to just three fly balls.

In his debut, a win over the Rays, he went six innings and allowed three hits, one run, three walks, and struck out six. I have seen enough swings and misses to think that Britton could pose solid strikeout rates in the majors.

Britton should be owned in most leagues and while he's a rookie and will see some bumps pitching in the AL East, he has the arsenal to succeed.
