Surf Week - on LI

The oh-so-chic Allegria Hotel and Spa in Long Beach is capitalizing on its oceanfront location with a week's worth of surfer-themed special events -- from surf lessons to a beach concert featuring Alexa Ray Joel -- July 11-16.

Among the highlights:

Monday, July 12: GI JOE V professional surf competition at noon, with beach tennis and volleyball followed by a lobster bake ($68 a person) put together by head chef Todd Jacobs that will also have a live band.

Wednesday, July 14: 9 p.m. Surfer-themed movie on the sand, with organic popcorn and snacks.

Thursday, July 15: 8 p.m. Beach concert with Mike Krum featuring Alexa Ray Joel.

Surf Week packages, priced from $449 a night (double occupancy), include breakfast and a one-hour surfing lesson. The hotel's special events are open to nonguests, although a $12 daily beach access fee may apply.
