Affordable Long Island hotels for a quick, relaxing mom getaway

A little time away goes a long way, especially when you're the one who rarely gets a break.
The good news: you don't need a long drive or a complicated plan to make it happen. These Long Island-area hotels are close enough to book on a whim, but far enough to feel like a true reset. Even better, certain days come with lower rates, making a solo night, a mom-and-me recharge or a full girls' getaway a lot more doable.

Set on 26 acres at the gateway to the North Fork, East Wind is the kind of place that feels like a destination even before you unpack. The 10,000-square-foot spa is the main draw, offering massages, facials, body treatments, couples suites, rain showers, saunas and steam rooms. Rooms come stocked with robes, spa products and oversized soaking tubs and the 200-seat on-site restaurant offers daily dining plus a Sunday brunch worth building the whole trip around. Right across the parking lot, The Shoppes at East Wind has 24 local boutiques and eateries, plus a carousel open daily.
When to book: Deluxe king rooms start at $179 per night Sundays through Thursdays in June and $219 per night Sundays through Thursdays in July for deluxe king or jetted tub rooms, making a Sunday or midweek check-in your best value play.

Things to do and explore nearby: Tanger Outlets (1770 W. Main St.; tanger.com/riverhead; 631-369-2732) in Riverhead is a short drive for a post-spa shopping detour, Briermere Farms (4414 Sound Ave.; briermerefarms.com; 631-722-3931) is a must for pick-your-own produce and legendary fruit pies. The North Fork wine trail, with dozens of wineries and craft breweries, is practically at your doorstep. Splish Splash (2549 Splish Splash Dr., Calverton; splishsplash.com, 631-727-3600) water park is close by for families traveling with kids and the beaches of Wading River and Sound Beach are just minutes away.

Port Jefferson is one of those picturesque North Shore villages with a little bit of everything, and Danfords sits right at the center of it on the harbor. The boutique hotel has 86 recently renovated rooms and suites, many with balconies overlooking the water, and an on-site spa with the Yoga for Life wellness studio for massages, facials and yoga sessions. Dining is handled by Black Pearl Seafood Chophouse, the hotel's waterfront restaurant serving fresh seafood, premium steaks and harbor views.
When to book: Wednesday nights offer the best rates, with bookings starting from $260 per night in July.

Things to do and explore nearby: The village is entirely walkable from the front door: boutique shops, galleries, the Long Island Explorium (101 E. Broadway; longislandexplorium.org; 631-331-3277) for families and Theatre Three (412 Main St.; theaterthree.com; 631-928-9100) for live performances are all within easy reach. The Sunday farmers market runs May through November with local produce, seafood and artisan goods. Historic Stony Brook Village is about 10 minutes away for its museums and waterfront shopping and the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry departs nearby if you want to tack on a Connecticut day trip. Note that marina operations are limited this season following winter storm damage, with a full return planned for 2027.

This boutique beach hotel sits steps from Rockaway Beach in Queens, which makes it feel worlds away from the city even though the NYC Ferry to Manhattan runs right from the neighborhood. The 53 rooms are individually furnished in teak and linen for a true beachy feel, with ocean-view balconies on select rooms. The year-round heated outdoor pool is a standout, the spa offers wellness packages and daily yoga, plus complimentary beach cruisers make it easy to explore the boardwalk. On-site dining at Margie's draws regulars with its Sunday $35 parm night.
When to book: Tuesday and Wednesday nights in July tend to run the lowest rates, with bookings starting around $312.

Things to do and explore nearby: Beyond the hotel, Rockaway Beach is the only stretch of NYC coastline where surfing is legal, with lessons available through local schools like New York Surf School (1-00 Beach 69th St.; newyorksurfschool.com; 718-916-5359) and Surfs Up NY (108-10 Rockaway Beach Dr; surfsupny.com; 347-957-5188). Jacob Riis Park (1-57 Rockaway Beach Blvd.; nps.gov; 718-318-4310) sits at the western tip of the peninsula, and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge (175-10 Cross Bay Blvd.; nps.gov; 718-318-4340) offers hiking and bird-watching. The boardwalk itself runs more than five miles, dotted with food trucks, local shops and spots like Tacoway Beach (3-02 Beach 87th St.; tacowaybeach.com) for fish tacos and Rippers (86-01 Shore Front Pkwy; eatrippers.com) for grass-fed burgers with an ocean backdrop.
