If there's one thing New Yorkers look forward to when the weather turns cold it is ice-skating, and while the experience is among the city's most enjoyable, it can also be among its most exasperating. With thousands of tourists, residents and occasionally film crews crowding the town's iconic facilities, a day at the rink can be an incredibly trying experience.

Luckily there's a hidden rink up at the top of Central Park where serious skaters can often find themselves alone on the ice. Lasker Rink, though far from glamorous, offers quality ice, lower admission fees, great facilities, and a much, much smaller crowd than virtually any other rink in the city.

Aside from its "vintage" charm its proximity to bustling, fascinating Harlem also makes it a great choice for some post-skate sightseeing.
