Fall is here and it's time to explore all the fun Long Island has to offer. For those looking for a quick weekend escape, spend the night at the Garden City Hotel and enjoy a meal at the Red Salt Room or see a show at Stephen Talkhouse and stay the night at The Roundtree in Amagansett. From the East End to Fire Island and in between, here are five local hotels and inns with deals this season and things to do in the area.

This 15-room boutique hotel is located among the many places to dine and shop along Main Street in Amagansett. Music lovers can check out Stephen Talkhouse (161 Main St., 631-267-3117,, a live music venue nearby. The Talkhouse stage is adjacent to the dance floor, so catching a show here puts guests inches from the action. Performances slated for the fall include Jackie Greene (Oct. 16) and Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams (Nov. 12). Atlantic Avenue Beach (at the south end of Atlantic Avenue) and Indian Wells Beach (at the south end of Indian Wells Highway) are no more than a mile or mile-and-a-half from this boutique hotel, and guests can borrow beach cruiser bikes and pedal to the shore, where parking permits are necessary.

Sole East

Notable for its wide, fenced-in lawn dotted with fire pits and space to wander, the outdoor heated pool at this resort will be open through October, and its Backyard Restaurant will be open Wednesdays through Sundays during the months as well. Any town beaches require parking permits, but state parks like Hither Hills (164 Old Montauk Hwy.; 631-668-2554, is free to enter come the fall, and Camp Hero (1898 Montauk Hwy.; 631-668-3781, costs only $8 daily to park until Columbus Day, then only on weekends until Nov. 14 — as is the Montauk Lighthouse (2000 Montauk Hwy.; 631-668-3781, The tower is still off-limits due to COVID restrictions, but the museum, grounds and gift shop are open daily.

Garden City Hotel

A luxury hotel recognized as a place where celebrities and notables stay, it’s also located within walking distance from a massive upscale shopping and dining district that starts down the block along Seventh Street and continues along Franklin Avenue; it’s also only a few miles’ drive from Roosevelt Field shopping mall. Guests can also dine outside at the Patio Bar. Found along the harbor with a public space — aptly named Harborfront Park (100-104 E. Broadway, — only footsteps to the east and all of Port Jefferson Village within walking distance, guests at this boutique hotel and spa can shop and dine day into the night. Guests can see a show at Theatre Three (412 Main St.; 631-928-9100,, a nonprofit theatre company that will be holding a rendition of the classic stage show "Grease" through Oct. 30 mainly weekends (plus Thursday evening shows Oct. 21, 28). Danfords has its own Wave restaurant as well, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Located in the most-western community on Fire Island, two-bedroom and three-bedroom villas will be still be available until Oct. 18.
