There’s no question that getting something romantic done on Valentine’s Day proper is extremely nice, but with the 2012 holiday falling on a Tuesday, many Long Islanders may have to schedule a special getaway before or following Feb. 14.

For those who would like to travel a bit to celebrate their better half (but need a flexible date), there are a number of resorts and inns in the nearby northeast that could make that a reasonable reality:

The “Nutmeg State” is only a quick drive up I-95 (or a ferry ride) away, and this offer stands as a two-night package that includes a $70 gift certificate for one of four local eateries, a bottle of chilled bubbly and special chocolates waiting in-room, a CD of love songs, a choice of either two hourlong Swedish massages or a 60-minute horse-drawn carriage (or sleigh ride, snow-permitting).

at $459.95

The bustling marina will take care of the outside entertainment while the hotel offers luxury rooms, a full American breakfast, valet parking and bubbly with chocolate-covered strawberries delivered to your room.

Reservations must be made three days in advance for this deal that includes dinner and breakfast, deluxe rooms and a bottle of sparkling wine, plus chocolate-covered strawberries. (Valid until April 30, 2012)

This two-night stay set within a country inn includes a three-course dinner served fireside in its price, as well as a cooked-to-order breakfast both mornings of the visit plus a tray of sweets and a bottle of bubbly. (Valid through March 31, 2012).
