Web Sightings: Can travelers trust TrustYou.com?
You can find aggregated hotel reviews on TrustYou.com. But can you really trust the site?
TrustYou uses a proprietary search engine that enables users to find reviews by preferences, such as "family-friendly hotels in Seattle" or "New York, dogs." Sort your results by score (based on how positive or negative the reviews were overall), price or star rating, or view them on a map. The list of hotels includes reviews from across the Web based on your search. Click on the reviews to see how the hotel scores with online chatterboxes. We liked clicking on the main hotel link to see a summary of reviews, plus a list of pros and cons.
But we found some prices to be off. For instance, the site said Encore in Las Vegas had room rates starting at $60. But when we typed in some travel dates, the search results refreshed with a rate of $290. Rates, of course, may vary by date, but the bottom line is this: Do your homework before booking. When it comes to websites with hotel reviews, TripAdvisor.com still scores better on providing ballpark rates.
