As a teenager, Patrice Fernandez loved browsing through fashion magazines and creating “wow effects” when styling looks for herself and her friends.

“I would accompany friends to the stores to shop,” says Fernandez, 48, of Freeport. And she says she offers that same sort of personal shopper-like help to customers at her new women’s and men’s boutique, Stoosh, in Rockville Centre. “Being a professional stylist gives me an extra edge,” she adds. “My aim is to help my clients go beyond the ordinary.”

Fernandez, who has nearly 20 years of retail experience and studied fashion merchandising and image consulting, also ventured beyond the ordinary when choosing the name for her shop.

“Stoosh is tied to my Jamaican heritage,” Fernandez explains. “Stoosh for me means stylish, sophisticated, successful. My fashion comes from designers globally and the brand is known for unique items.” She adds the shop’s atmosphere is “cozy, peaceful and comfortable.”

“For the holidays we’ll have great gift items, cocktail dresses and elegant tops,” Fernandez adds. She notes she is also available to do wardrobe evaluations and photo shoot styling.

Opened in August, Stoosh features clothing and accessories including dresses, pants, sweaters, handbags, and belts as well as gifts. Prices range from earrings for around $25 to formal gowns for about $200.

Stoosh is located at 89 North Park Ave., in Rockville Centre. Hours are Sunday and Monday by appointment only, Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; 646-942-8237, stooshretail.com.
