Thursday’s weather — sunny and cold — pretty much sums up what the New York metropolitan region can anticipate into next week, the National Weather Service said.

The high for the day hit 47 but, the weather service said, “A cool westerly flow will make it feel even colder, more like the upper 30s.”

Daytime highs will retreat to the low 40s over the weekend before rising back into the low 50s by Tuesday. Nighttime thermometers will follow the same pattern, sliding down to freezing and just below from Friday to Sunday, and then rising back into the 30s.

The wind chill should make it feel even colder the next few days: “Gusty conditions each afternoon will make each day feel more like temperatures are in the 30s,” the forecasters said.

Those winds should keep frost from forming except in parts of New Jersey and on Staten Island.

This cool-down — with temperatures expected to be as much as 10 to 15 degrees below normal — will last stay around until a brief respite in the middle of next week.

Monday will also be cold and sunny with a high of 46. But then, “Readings will then moderate through mid-week in a west-southwest flow as high pressure builds across the Mid Atlantic Region.”

Tuesday and Wednesday will see highs in the low 50s and more sunshine. But Thanksgiving's high will be just 46 degrees. And by the end of the week, forecasters are watching a system that may produce some form of precipitation in a "coastal low" but models are still uncertain, the weather service said.
