Potential showers and temperatures as high as the 90s are included in Long Island’s forecast this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Long Islanders should expect a cloudy start to their workweek on Monday with showers likely before noon and a high near 80 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 60% with new rain amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

At night, the low will be about 69 with partly cloudy skies and a light northwest wind of around 5 mph.

A 20 % chance of showers and Thunderstorms before 3 p.m. is forecast for a sunny Tuesday as temperatures are expected to rise to the low 90s. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms continue in the evening before 9 p.m. as temperatures will be in the low 70s.

“We have a cold front coming through on Tuesday, there could be a couple showers associated with it, but it should not be as widespread as the showers we’re expecting on Sunday into Monday,” said Matthew Wunsch, a weather service meteorologist in Upton. “As we get into midweek high pressure settles over the area between systems and it actually gets really hot again.”

Wednesday's forecast includes a sunny day and a high near 90. The evening will remain mostly clear with a low near 73.

Thursday will likely be the hottest day of the week with a high in the mid-90s and sunny skies. Temperatures drop to the mid-70s at night with mostly clear skies.

Rain could return at the end of the week as there is a 50% chance of rain with showers and thunderstorms forecast Friday before 3 p.m. The thermometer Friday is expected to rise to the low 90s with partly sunny skies. Showers and thunderstorms are predicted at night as well with a low near 71, the weather service said.

A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms with partly sunny skies and a high near 85 is Saturday’s forecast. The evening also includes a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms with mostly cloudy skies and a low temperature of around 71 degrees.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 89, according to the weather service.
