9 out of 10 employers say it's hard to fill key jobs

Despite high unemployment, nearly nine out of 10 U.S. employers find it difficult to fill key positions, according to a new survey from Right Management, a Philadelphia-based career-management firm.

The survey found that 88 percent of companies found it “often difficult” or “occasionally difficult” to fill certain jobs, up from 84 percent a year ago.

The company, which is a division of ManpowerGroup, surveyed more than 600 companies nationwide.

A Manpower study released last year found that more than half of U.S. companies are struggling to find enough qualified workers for such key positions as skilled trades, sales and engineering.

Some Long Island executives and labor-market experts have also expressed concern about the local shortage of skilled labor despite high unemployment, which is currently 7.2 percent.
