Kohl’s plans to hire roughly 600 workers on Long Island for the upcoming holiday season — and more than 69,000 additional workers nationally.

Toys R Us on Monday said it plans to hire more than 700 seasonal workers at its eight Long Island stores. The toy seller previously said it expects to add at least 10,900 workers in five of its biggest markets.

Department store operator Kohl’s has 12 stores in Nassau and Suffolk counties, according to its website, and more than 1,100 nationwide. A Kohl’s representative said Monday that the company plans to hire 50 seasonal workers on average per store.

Kohl’s said it started hiring in August for the holiday season and expects most jobs to be filled by the middle of November.

Several other retailers and businesses have already started ramping up hiring for the key holiday shopping season.

UPS will hire about 2,850 seasonal workers on the Island, and 95,000 nationally, to help meet shipping demands.

Target has said it will hire more than 70,000 seasonal store workers, about the same as it hired last year.

J.C. Penney said Monday it will hire 40,000 workers for the holidays, an increase of 10,000 from last year. The company didn’t provide detail about its plans for hiring on Long Island.
