Long Island employers are looking to fill hundreds of jobs at the LGBT Network’s second annual LGBTQ job fair Wednesday afternoon.
Representatives from more than 20 “LGBT-affirming companies” are scheduled to attend the event, hosted at the Network’s headquarters at 125 Kennedy Dr., Suite 100 in Hauppauge, event organizers said. The job fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Employers scheduled to attend include Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Henry Schein, Rivkin Radler and Suffolk County.
“LGBT job seekers will connect with companies looking to recruit and hire from the LGBT community from across Long Island and the tristate area — there is no other event like it in the region,” David Kilmnick, president and founder of the LGBT Network said in a statement.
Kilmnick added that LGBT workers continue to worry about discrimination in the workplace.
Nearly half of all LGBT employees remain closeted while at work, according to a 2018 survey by the Human Rights Campaign.
"LGBT employees continue to face a variety of challenges in securing employment, on-the-job harassment and discrimination, and fears of losing their job,” he said.
