BOARD APPOINTMENTS
Mark S. Davis, managing partner of Deloitte & Touche in Jericho, has been appointed to the board of directors at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola.
R. Sail Van Nostrand was elected chairman of the Long Island Solar Energy Association. The Greenlawn resident owns and operates Energy by Choice, a solar integrating company in Greenlawn.
Jane Ashdown, dean of the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education at Adelphi University, has joined the board of directors at The Early Years Institute, a Plainview nonprofit organization that promotes increased investment in young children.
FINANCE
John E. Hommel has joined Private Client Asset Management in Garden City as a senior financial advisor. The Carle Place resident was a financial advisor at Chase Investment Services in New Hyde Park.
HEALTH CARE
Garry J. Schwall has been promoted to chief operating officer at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola. He most recently served as vice president of the hospital's heart institute. He is a Blue Point resident.
Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre has announced that two specialists have joined their in-house staff of physicians. Dr. Betina Louis of Westbury was previously on the hospitalist staff at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Julia Suarez, a New Hyde Park resident, previously operated her own practice in Rockville Centre.
LAW
Thomas G. DeVivo Jr. has joined the Hicksville firm of Russo & Pedranghelu. DeVivo was New York State commissioner of jurors for Nassau County and lives in Massapequa.
Christine K. Knox has joined the Mineola firm of Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone as an associate. The Huntington resident was a trusts and estates associate at Humes & Wagner in Locust Valley.
Duffy & Duffy, a Melville-based medical malpractice firm, has announced the addition of two attorneys. Mary Rita Wallace is a Port Washington resident. Frank Torres lives in Merrick. Both were previously associated with Levine & Grossman in Mineola.

Laura Rivela, a Riverhead resident, has joined the Huntington-based Family Service League as division director of behavioral health services. She was the director of Catholic Charities' mental health clinic in Medford.
Ruth McDade has been appointed director of development at Clubhouse of Suffolk, a provider of psychiatric rehabilitation services in Ronkonkoma and Riverhead. The West Babylon resident was grant and research associate for South Oaks Hospital/Broadlawn Manor Nursing Home in Amityville.
Eileen McDonald Egan has joined United Cerebral Palsy Association of Suffolk as vice president, program services. The Seaford resident was vice president, special needs at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in Manhattan.
