Twenty-six Long Island business professionals-turned-boxers squared off in the ring for the 12th annual Long Island Fight for Charity Monday night in Melville, marking the biggest fighter turnout in the event's history.
With names like Peter "The Kings Park Krusher" Stein and Joanne "The Tigress" Hutchins, local business men and women duked it out in front of a sold-out crowd at the Hilton Long Island, raising around $300,000 for local charities including the Long Island Community Chest, The Genesis School, and Family Residences and Essential Enterprises Inc.
Each fighter had to raise a minimum of $5,000 through sponsors and ticket sales, and commit to months of gym training in advance of the main event.
Founded in 2003, the event has had about 200 participants, and has raised more than $1 million for local charity organizations.
