Teresa Rizzuto is commisioner of Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Last year I had the chance to introduce Teresa Rizzuto at an awards event. I was kind of sorry not to be on the other side of the podium, with notebook in hand, as this woman has quite a story to tell.

This single mom got her start as a baggage handler on the night shift for United Airlines, hauling 80-pound bags of mail and crawling around airplane cargo holds – she, herself, tipping the scales at about 100 pounds. She climbed the ranks and now is commissioner of aviation for MacArthur Airport.

You can catch her story tomorrow night in Garden City, as she’ll be the keynote speaker at the Long Island Women’s Agenda program on "Work Life Balance - The Next Generation."
