New website helps veterans find temporary jobs at state agencies
New York State has announced a new website that connects veterans to temporary employment opportunities at state agencies.
The Veterans Temporary Hiring Program website allows job seekers to upload their resumes and designate geographic preferences for employment. State agencies will then use the information to identify candidates for open positions.
Some of the temporary positions include disaster assistance representative, highway maintenance worker and seasonal jobs such as lifeguard and tax information aide.
"Temporary jobs provide valuable experience our veterans can leverage to improve their employment opportunities both inside and outside state government," said state Civil Service Commissioner Jerry Boone.
Eligibility is limited to veterans with a Department of Defense Form 214, which verifies military service, and to those released from the military after Sept. 11, 2001. Applicants with a dishonorable discharge aren't eligible.
