Nordstrom Rack in Bay Shore closes temporarily

The Nordstrom Rack in Bay Shore has temporarily closed.

The store, on Sunrise Highway at Gardiner Manor Mall, closed temporarily "due to unforeseen circumstances," according to a recorded message on the location's phone line. In the window of the store, a permit issued by the Town of Islip states that the owner has permission to repair a water main break. A representative for the Town of Islip did not immediately comment on the Bay Shore store's closure.

Customer pickup orders have been shipped to the nearby store at The Shops at Sunvet in Holbrook, according to the company's website.

Representatives for the mall's landlord, Indianapolis-based Kite Realty Group, did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the reason for the closure. A representative for Seattle-based Nordstrom Rack declined to comment.

Nordstrom Rack opened its 24,000-square-foot Bay Shore store in the summer of 2024, replacing a former Staples office supply store, Newsday reported. The mall also holds a King Kullen, Target and Barnes & Noble, according to Kite Realty Group's website.

Nordstrom Inc. has opened more off-price Rack stores in the past three years as it sought to bring in more customers with discounted prices, Newsday reported. It has Racks at Smith Haven Plaza in Lake Grove, The Gallery at Westbury Plaza in Garden City and in Manhasset Center, according to the company's website.

The descendants of the Nordstrom family, who founded the chain in 1901, and the Mexican company El Puerto de Liverpool, acquired the clothing retailer in May last year, according to a company announcement. Following the acquisition, the company's revenue rose 7% to $15.9 billion last year, Yahoo Finance reported.
