Karyn Schoenbart, a three-decade veteran at the NPD Group, has been promoted to chief executive, the Port Washington market research company said.

Schoenbart held a variety of positions at NPD, most recently serving as president and chief operating officer. She oversaw NPD’s global commercial practices, products, IT and operations.

“As the world around us changes, NPD will keep evolving and innovating to help brands and retailers address new challenges and opportunities,” Schoenbart said in a release Monday afternoon.

She replaces Tod Johnson, chairman and chief executive of NPD since 1971. Johnson will be the company’s full-time executive chairman and work with Schoenbart on strategy. He will also “focus on long-term planning, research and special initiatives,” the release said.

Schoenbart will continue to oversee the global operations and execution of the business.

“This promotion, to a large extent, reflects how we are operating,” Johnson said in a statement.

“It recognizes Karyn’s contributions, including leading the transformation of our company with the introduction of more consultative business solutions which complement our tracking data in more than 20 industries.”
