Opportunites LI construction program hosts information sessions

Opportunities Long Island, an education program that prepares young adults from poor communities to compete for apprenticeships offered by construction unions, is holding three information sessions, starting Oct. 10.
The sessions will be held Oct. 10 at 10 a.m., Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. Potential applicants only have to attend one session.
The sessions will be held at the Huntington Town Opportunity Resource Center, 1264 New York Ave., in Huntington Station.
Opportunities Long Island is a free, 240-hour program started by the Nassau-Suffolk Building and Construction Trades Council and the Long Island Federation of Labor.
Applicants must be 18 or older, live on Long Island; be unemployed or earn a low income; have a high school diploma or its equivalent; be able to perform eight hours of physical labor per day; be legally able to work in the United States; and pass reading, math and drug tests.
