Mississippi Record Gator, Largest Boone & Crockett Whitetail Deer Collection Part of Western and Taxidermy Auction
More than 700 big game and exotic taxidermy mounts from the collections of 3 legendary hunters and 5 more estates are up for auction in Fort Worth, Texas and online. An additional 500 items including Indian and cowboy collectible items, furniture, bronzes and works of art by renowned artists, horns, hides, chaps, spurs, saddles, blankets, and rugs are in the sale.

A Mississippi state record alligator and the largest Boone & Crockett Whitetail Deer collection ever at one auction are among the top items for sale at the Western Collectibles and Taxidermy Auction on April 21-22, 2018, at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth.
More than 700 big game and exotic taxidermy mounts from the collections of three legendary hunters plus five other estates, along with 500 Indian and cowboy collectible items, bronzes, furniture, works of art by renowned artists, chaps, spurs, saddles, blankets, and rugs, among others, are in the sale. Doors open both days at 10 a.m.
The gargantuan reptile weighed more than 750 pounds, and is 14 feet, 10 inches long. Over 100 Whitetail Deer taxidermy mounts ranging between the 200-500 class on the Boone & Crockett scale will be available, as well as four sets of Ivory tusks, a Top 10 Lord Derby, and huge Elk mounts.
Among the top hunter estates being liquidated include that of Irvin Barnhart of Houston, who was considered one of the top 10 hunters in the world. His collection includes numerous Safari Club record book mounts.
Additional estates being liquidated include those of Rick Smith of Midland and Mike Brown of Brownsville. Also included are three estates from Washington state, Oklahoma, and Fort Worth. Trophy mounts in the combined collections includes Axis Deer, Black Bear, Brown Bear, Buffalo, Cougar, Lion, Polar Bear, Musk Ox, Zebra, Wolf, Grizzly Bear, Kudu, Cape Hartebeest, White Blesbok, Sitka Deer and others.
Up for purchase are 60 pieces of western and wildlife art plus 50 significant bronze statues by well-known artists including Rick Taylor, Charles M. Russell, and Remington. Many beautiful wood carvings including an eight-foot-tall Kudu (head and base) that is remarkable in design and detail.
Other items include a 1700’s ship captain’s telescope, hides and skulls, authentic Roman coins, rare coins, bird mounts, 50 assorted fish mounts, antique furniture and accessories, antique African masks, drums, hand-woven Egyptian rug, other furniture and decorative items, African carvings, arrowhead displays, cowhorn furniture, horns, antlers, framed fishing lures, framed old knife collection, Indian jewelry, knives, signs, Southwest-style blankets, Southwest rugs, steer horns, turquoise jewelry, US currency and coins.
