A team of historians assembled by the Union County Chamber of Commerce met with local community members as part of a grant funded project from Humanities Tennessee to document the story of Maynardville, TN. The final proposed project will include digital story telling to accompany a guided tour of this historic community.

Maynardville, TN (PRWEB) November 30, 2013

A team of historians gathered at the Roy Acuff Museum in Maynardville, Tennessee to begin gathering stories from local residents. The group's purpose is to research the history of this community, birthplace of country music legends, Roy Acuff and Carl Smith and in a county that also was the home of Roy Atkins and Kenny Chesney. It is said that Union County, TN has the greatest per capita of Grand Old Opry members in Tennessee. The county was also recognized by the General Legislative Assembly as the "Cradle of Country Music" in 2010.

In this first meeting of the team, locals citizens shared stories of their family's histories which included the building of Norris Dam, Thunder Road, and the legacies of families who called this small community home.

Funded by Humanities Tennessee, the goal of the team is to develop a self-guided walking tour that will tell the story of Maynardville. This project will eventually be available on mobile app technology and include video narrative.
