Logitech’s F540 brings you into the game
Product: Logitech F540 Wireless Gaming Headset
Console: Xbox & PS3
Whether you are a late-night gamer or just looking to get more into the game, incorporating a great set of gaming headphones is essential in taking your experience to the next level. With so many headset choices out there, it’s hard to find a product that gives you the best performance for your gaming type. If you’re a console gamer, this post is for you.
Enter the Logitech F540 wireless gaming headset. Designed specifically for Xbox and PS3 the F540 is the ultimate headset for hardcore gamers. Out of the box the headset is impressive. The quality is solid and the packaging is set up to assist you with step-by-step instructions to get you gaming fast. The device consists of the headphones, wires to connect the headset to either Xbox or PS3 controllers, RCA piggyback cables for audio, USB charging wire and the base station.
Setup is a snap. Just plug in the base station and connect the RCA plugs to your console audio. I piggybacked on my TV audio output so I get all my TV audio. One of the negative aspects of these headphones is the lack of high definition audio such as 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, but to be honest, I didn’t even notice. The sound was clear, well rounded and had enough volume and noise cancellation to help me forget reality.
Earphone padding made the fit comfortable but after a couple hours did get a bit uncomfortable. To the F540’s defense, I have yet to find a set of headphones that would hold up to a 4 hour run without some discomfort.
One of the best features of the F540 is the microphone. I hooked mine up to my Xbox with the supplied wire and was impressed with the clarity and response. The mic flips up when not in use, automatically muting voice then flips down to enable speech. A small beep lets you know it’s on.
Another great feature of the headset is the independent site volume wheels, one controlling voice, the other the game audio. All in all the F540 is a solid headset for console gaming.
Although I would have liked to see the incorporation of Dolby 7.1 surround sound in this $150 headset, the other features --like the lack of wires, ease of setup and sound clarity -- had me forgetting about audio dimensions and focusing more on sniping out some headshots.
Don’t be confused with Logitech’s G930 headset. The F540 is made specifically for console gaming and is available on Amazon for $149.99.
