Plainview-based Veeco, the light-emitting diode innovator, has a new video online.

It shows the inner workings of a new machine, the MaxBright, that Veeco hopes will increase its advantage supplying Chinese factories.

Veeco already has a 50 percent market share in the light-emitting diode tool market in China, according to a UBS Investment Bank analyst.

Now Veeco hopes to increase that share with the TurboDisc MaxBright machine.

Veeco says its MaxBright technology makes five times as many LED units as its more recent technology, and takes up only twice the space.

The goal is to revolutionize the lighting industry by making it far cheaper to replace incandescent technology with light-emitting diodes.

LEDs are a form of solid-state lighting, which “has the potential to revolutionize the lighting industry,” according to a policy statement from the Lighting Research Center, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

“Light-emitting diodes — raditionally used in signs, signals and displays — are rapidly evolving to provide light sources for general illumination," the research center statement said. "This technology holds promise for lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance.”
