Toyota Tundra frames prematurely rusting
Cars.com is reporting that Toyota is issuing a volunteer recall for 2000-2003 Tundras. Apparently, the pickup trucks in these model years have prematurely rusting frames.
Dealers will only offer replacements if the frame has holes due to rusting.
"Put simply, the frame must have holes larger than 10 mm in diameter (about the width of a marble). For those vehicles, Toyota will replace the frame and offer a rental vehicle during the process," says Cars.com
According to a letter sent to dealers, if a frame is found faulty, Toyota will supposedly replace the entire frame of the car, which would cost Toyota more $10,000 per vehicle.
Granted, I'm not a mechanic, but anyone know how an ENTIRE frame is replaced. It sort of like trying to replace all the bones of our body or the structural steel of a building.
The volunteer recall will be available to Tundra owners until April 2012.
