 John Murcott has joined the board of directors of the Long Island Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization that identifies community needs, strengthens the Island's nonprofit sector and encourages philanthropy.  EDUCATION 
 Michael Arens has been appointed assistant vice president of government and community relations at <a href="/topics/Stony_Brook_University">Stony Brook University</a>. The <a href="/topics/East_Islip%2C_NY">East Islip</a> resident joins Stony Brook from the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory, where was manager of state and local government affairs.

 Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty in <a href="/topics/Cold_Spring_Harbor%2C_NY">Cold Spring Harbor</a> announced the addition of two licensed sales staff. Matthew Avelar, of <a href="/topics/Woodbury%2C_NY">Woodbury</a>, held a similar position at Lex Realty in <a href="/topics/Syosset%2C_NY">Syosset</a>. Allison Pehel, of <a href="/topics/Glen_Cove%2C_NY">Glen Cove</a>, was a licensed saleswoman at Gold Coast Realty in <a href="/topics/Locust_Valley%2C_NY">Locust Valley</a>.
