Dr. Daniel Murphy has been named president of The Friends of Mercy Medical Center, an organization of men who volunteer their time and effort to raise funds for the advancement of medical and surgical care at Mercy Medical Center. The Garden City resident is director of emergency services and senior director of patient care operations at the Rockville Centre hospital.
Terence E. Smolev, a resident of Jericho and partner at the Uniondale-based law firm of Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, has been appointed to the Dean's Advisory Council of the American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla based in Fort Salonga announced new officers. Steve Dejuri was named flotilla commander. The Kings Park resident is an insurance claims investigator with Profile Services in Melville. Adam Bolender was named vice flotilla commander. The Deer Park resident is a majordomo for a Stony Brook family and is pursuing a degree in emergency services administration at Adelphi University. Patricia Catalano was elected bandleader. The Floral Park resident is a student at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in Flushing.
Patricia C. Marcin was appointed to the board of directors at the Caumsett Foundation in Huntington. She is a trusts and estates attorney at the Uniondale law firm of Farrell Fritz and lives in Lloyd Neck.
Suzanne Q. Burke has been named to the board of directors at Girls Inc. of Long Island, a nonprofit organization that inspires and empowers girls to reach their full potential. She is a trusts and estates associate at Farrell Fritz in Uniondale and lives in Bayport.
Alan Bregman has been elected to the board of directors of the New York Marine Trades Association. The Long Beach resident is owner of Sea Tow Freeport.
EDUCATION
Berta A. Cevallos has joined the staff at Eastern Suffolk BOCES in Oakdale to teach in its new Medical Interpreter Program. The Plainview resident is a special needs and language assistance program coordinator for the Suffolk County Department of Health Services in Hauppauge.
LAW
Robin Daleo was promoted to associate at the newly renamed law firm of Nancy Burner & Associates in Westhampton Beach. The area resident had been a paralegal at the firm.
LOGISTICS
Claudell Germain has joined Kuehne + Nagel in Jersey City as senior vice president of sales for contract logistics and supply chain for The Americas. The Coram resident was senior director of global business development and solutions engineering for Menlo Worldwide Logistics in San Mateo, Calif.
REAL ESTATE
Valerie Van Cleef has been named manager of the Syosset office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. Previously, the Centerport resident managed the Syosset office of Coach Realtors.
