“Life After People,” a History Channel nine-part series that speculates what might happen to the planet if the human race disappeared, features a home in Wantagh now on the market for $327,989.

One of the original Levitt and Sons ranches built in 1951, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home has been renovated over the years. Additional amenities include a two-room fireplace, a sprinkler system and new energy-efficient windows.

Polly Dwyer, president of the Levittown Historical Society, says that History Channel representatives had contacted her looking for an original Levitt home to use in the series, which originally aired in 2008 and 2009. The producers said they felt that Levitt houses are well known throughout the world and that they truly represent the beginning of suburbia, she says.

Exterior shots of the home were used and then computerized images to show what would happen without people, she says.

"It was a very interesting experience," says Gary Fisch, who volunteered the use of his home for the series. "I learned a lot about Levittown and Long Island," adding, “this house has served us well, we have lived here for 35 years and raised our family and now are ready to move on and be near our children and grandchildren."

Patricia Tuerlings of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate in East Meadow is the listing agent for the house.
