How much are these houses worth to you? Make a bid
Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. is the deadline to make a bid online for 87 Waldorf Ave., a three-bedroom, 1.5-bath Elmont Colonial that needs some work. The asking price range is $158,000 to $199,000, and the owners want to sell "immediately," according to the listing with RE/MAX Island.
Agent Dean Miller, who is overseeing the bidding process as the Nassau County representative for the House Buyer Network, says the sellers want to close by the end of the month. So far, he has received only one bid online but another three by fax and expects at least two more by the end of the day, he says. Although the listing says that the owners will sell to the highest qualified bidder, they have a right to change their mind and make a counteroffer, he says. They plan to review all the bids Friday afternoon, he says. As for what the buyers will get -- a house in "fair" condition that needs new windows and a new roof and possibly some "minor flaws" in one of the foundation's walls, Miller says.

In Montauk, this bank-owned home at 20 Gilbert Rd. comes with a pool, a fireplace and hardwood flooring. The opening bid? $379,000. Bidding begins at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 and continues through noon Sept. 11. Anyone interested in making a bid, or just wants to monitor the bidding, must register at Auction.com, says Rick Weinberg, a spokesman for Real Estate Disposition Inc., which is running the sales event. The bank "will be working with the highest bidder," he says, adding that representatives are not bound to accept that bid and may make a counteroffer. "Traditionally, they [the auctions] move quickly," he adds. "They want to turn a non-performing asset into a performing asset."
