Restored 1911 home

This Muttontown home, on the market for $3.499 million, was the second home that prominent Manhattan attorney Bronson Winthrop commissioned to be designed by the famed architecture firm of Delano & Aldrich.

Built in 1911, the nearly 12,000-square-foot home was restored by the current owners and is filled with original details, including tiles from Wales in the entry hall, a double sink in the butler's pantry and 14 fireplaces. Modern updates include a geothermal heating and cooling system and speakers wired throughout the first floor and the slate patio by the heated in-ground pool.

Janet Berookhim of Laffey Fine Homes, who is co-listing the property with Benito Catania, says many of the updates, including the new storm windows, are in keeping with the home's antique look.

"Everything is just magnificently restored," Berookhim says. "They've kept the integrity of the older home but brought it up to today's standards."

The home, which sits on three landscaped acres, has seven bedrooms, including a master suite with French doors leading onto a private porch and a bathroom with a fireplace. A large first-floor bedroom, also with a fireplace, is used as a media room. There's also a three-car garage with an attached studio apartment.
