Rich Cribs: North Haven prop sells for $19.75M, and more
The 11-acre North Haven estate belonging to the widow of the late adman Philip Dusenberry recently sold for $19.75 million. The five-bedroom, 6.5-bath waterfront home -- designed by Hamptons architect and Christie Brinkley ex Peter Cook -- came on the market in 2009. It was last listed for $22 million. Susan Breitenbach of The Corcoran Group brought the seller; Corcoran's Cee Scott Brown, David Bray and Jack Pearson listed the property. OFF THE MARKET. The 11-acre North Haven estate belonging to the widow of the late adman Philip Dusenberry recently sold for $19.75 million. Dusenberry was the advertising executive behind the Michael Jackson Pepsi commercial in which the pop star's hair lit on fire; he also wrote some of the most legendary slogans of all time, from General Electric's "We Bring Good Things to Life" to Pepsi's "The Choice of a New Generation." The five-bedroom, 6.5-bath waterfront home -- designed by Hamptons architect and Christie Brinkley ex Peter Cook -- came on the market in 2009.
It was last listed for $22 million. Susan Breitenbach of The Corcoran Group brought the seller; Corcoran's Cee Scott Brown, David Bray and Jack Pearson listed the property. "This was a really truly one-of-a-kind property," says Brown, pointing out that it broke a record as the second highest-selling property in North Haven. The buyer was Andrew Farkas, the New York City real estate developer.
A week before he purchased the property, he sold his Southampton compound known as Hitwood, another Breitenbach listing, for $9.43 million. It first came on the market last spring for $9.995 million. Sotheby's International Realty brought the buyer. "They're both really amazing waterfront properties," says Breitenbach of the transactions.

OLD AND NEW. A $5.5 million house for sale in Old Westbury combines the old with the new: old because it sits on land that was originally part of the Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney estate and new because it was built in 2003 with modern touches. "The house has the highest degree of elegance and warmth," says listing agent Jean Margolin of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty. The living room has 20-foot-high ceilings with thick molding and the dining room has handpainted murals of scenic landscapes. The seven-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom house sits behind a gate on 3.9 acres and backs up to the Old Westbury Country Club golf course. The lush gardens have an enclosed hot tob, pergola, fountainwall and outdoor kitchen.

ISLAND CHANGES. The asking price may not be high, but look where the profits will be going. A two-dwelling property in Shelter Island belonging to John Sieni, owner of the Candlelite Inn bed and breakfast in Shelter Island, is now down to $465,000. Sieni is selling the property in order to put the resources into another one just three doors down -- a new boutique hotel he’s planning to open under the name La Maison Blanc with partner Alistair MacLean, former manager of Andre Balazs’ nearby Sunset Beach. The new hotel is located at the site of the former Olde Country Inn. “The property is interesting because it’s two dwellings: a renovated two-bedroom, two-bath home and a summer cottage with two bedrooms and one bath," says listing agent Penelope Moore of Corcoran. “He had used these cottages as an adjunct to his own bed and breakfast, but now he wants to sell them to put the money into renovating the Olde Country Inn."The original asking price for the .79-acre property was $650,000 in May 2009. Moore says a Town of Shelter Island assessment valued the property at $522,000.
