Sayville Victorian home boasts two historic guesthouses

This Sayville Victorian doesn’t come with just one but two guesthouses. The 112-by-210-foot property is listed for $679,000.

Casa Azur, the blue guesthouse, was brought over fully intact around 1930 from Fire Island and once was used as a business office for the original owners.

The second guesthouse, known as the Brown House, was built in 1928 for the original owner’s mother. It has a stepped chimney, which was “an old-fashioned way of keeping witches out of the chimney,” says seller Nancy Angermaier.

The living room and front parlor of the main house feature two original plaster medallions dating to 1897. The oak staircase is original. Upstairs, two of the three walk-in closets have full-size windows. There also is a copper roof that collects rainwater in an underground cistern tank and is used for irrigation.

The property features an extensive four-season garden, which was installed, designed and managed by Angermaier, a landscape designer who did the Common Ground Park in Sayville. Among the trees, perennials and exotic plants found in the garden is a waterfall and pond with fish, both installed by Angermaier when she bought the house 12 years ago. There is an organic vegetable garden offering vegetables such as kale, cucumbers, tomatoes and beans.
