Southampton estate sale offers high-end deals
A Southampton mansion that recently sold for $9.3 million is being cleared of its luxury furnishings, with an estate sale taking place Dec. 3-4.
Much of the furniture was used to stage the home, which was built 13 years ago, when it was recently placed on the market, says Kevin Godfrey of Henry Laurent Estate Sales, which is running the sale.
“Only in the Hamptons is this considered a tag sale or an estate sale,” Godfrey says. “A lot of the people I’m getting calls from, three of them have said that verbatim.”
Items for sale include custom leather sofas, chandeliers, home theater accessories, rugs, paintings, a pool table and gym equipment. The furnishings will be sold for at least 20 percent to 30 percent of the retail price, and some will have deeper discounts, Godfrey says.
There are furnishings for sale from Ralph Lauren, Ethan Allen and Restoration Hardware, but most are custom pieces by New York City designers with massive price cuts. For example, a custom chandelier purchased for $11,000 will be selling for $2,000, while a $25,000 dining set will go for $4,000 to $5,000, Godfrey says.
The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Cash and credit cards are accepted, and moving is available for an additional fee.
