Oscar winner Goldie Hawn is set to make a rare appearance on Long Island.

The star of such hit movies as "Private Benjamin," "Foul Play" and "The First Wives Club" is coming to the Madison Theatre at Molloy University in Rockville Centre on May 4 to talk about her career and her new children's book, "The After-School Kindness Crew: Pooch on the Loose." Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. event, which is being presented by Long Island LitFest, are $45 can be purchased at madisontheatreny.org.

The book, which is earmarked as the first in a series, comes out May 5 and is aimed at ages 7 to 10. Written by Hawn with Lin Oliver and featuring illustrations by Breanna Chambers, the story follows a trio of fourth graders who become good friends and have all sorts of adventures involving an escaped snake and a loose dog during Surprise Us Day at their school.

The series is inspired by The Goldie Hawn Foundation’s MindUP program, which helps children learn emotional resilience and stress management. Each book will include "Brain Breaks," which are guided breathing exercises designed for kids to take a breath and collect their thoughts. "I wanted to create these relatable stories to remind children of the power of kindness, while giving them moments of laughter and calm," Hawn said in a statement. "The brain breaks woven throughout each book invite children to pause, breathe and reconnect with joy. What could be better?"

A second book, "The After-School Kindness Crew: Slam Dunk Day," is set to come out in November.

Hawn, 80, has been a star since her breakout role as a cast member of the variety show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" from 1968 to 1970. She became a bona fide film star after her Oscar-winning turn in the 1969 comedy "Cactus Flower" and was nominated again for "Private Benjamin" (1980). In 2017, she played South Side High School alumna and comedian Amy Schumer's mom in "Snatched."

Hawn has been in a relationship with actor Kurt Russell since they met in 1983 on the set of "Swing Shift" and has three children — actors Kate and Oliver Hudson from her second marriage to actor-musician Bill Hudson, and actor Wyatt Russell.
