What’s new: Roald Dahl’s letters, books from Robert Olen Butler, Margot Lee Shetterly

PERFUME RIVER, by Robert Olen Butler. LOVE FROM BOY: Roald Dahl’s Letters to His Mother, edited by Donald Sturrock. The author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Matilda” and many other dark children’s classics would have been 100 this month. Here his biographer collects Dahl’s correspondence with his mother — from 1925, when he was sent to boarding school at age 9, until 1965, two years before her death. His letters (hers have been lost) reveal a writer coming into his own. (Blue Rider Press, $26)
