The sun setting over Fort Pond in Montauk served as the backdrop for the band Capital Cities as they played the Surf Lodge hotel and restaurant on Sunday, May 24.

Surf Lodge annually hosts an outdoor summer concert series, featuring lineups that usually consist of up-and-coming indie bands, as well as occasional musical icons. The third act to jam on the Lodge stage during Memorial Day weekend 2015 (following Mac DeMarco on May 22 and Escort on May 23), Capital Cities is a Los Angeles-based group, best known for its track "Safe and Sound," a song that once reached the top 10 of the United States Billboard Hot 100 music chart and received a Grammy nomination for "Best Music Video."

Despite temperatures in the low 60s, the waterside venue was filled to capacity, with most in attendance watching the show from either the spot's deck or near its large sandy fire pit. Usually only hosting shows on Saturdays and Sundays, Surf Lodge will hold an added performance Monday, May 25, due to the extended holiday weekend, with Swedish singer Tove Lo scheduled to play at 5 p.m.

No cover fee is charged to enter, but, as mentioned, the space tends to fill to capacity, so consider making dinner reservations for guaranteed entry. The Surf Lodge is at 183 Edgemere St. in Montauk. For more information, call 631-238-5216 or visit thesurflodge.com.
