A day after Lindsay Lohan was charged with felony grand theft of personal property in connection with an expensive necklace allegedly stolen from a Venice, Calif., jewelry store, her attorney said that while the charge is "entirely defensible," that Lohan might be willing to plead guilty in an arrangement that avoids jail time.
"Ms. Lohan maintains her innocence, and now that I've seen the police reports, I believe the case is entirely defensible," said Shawn Chapman Holley. "Having said that, we will entertain a discussion concerning a plea if it means no jail so that she can move forward with her recovery and her career."
Lohan was released Wednesday, the day she was charged in Los Angeles after posting $40,000 bond on the felony case and the concurrent probation violation.
Judge Keith Schwartz will hold a hearing Feb. 23 to determine whether to send Lohan to jail on that violation and may use that court date to consider a plea deal.
Meanwhile, Lohan broke her silence on the case, taking to Twitter to tell her fans that she is innocent. "fyi- i would never steal, in case people are wondering. I was not raised to lie, cheat, or steal ..." she posted Thursday.
She also commented on the media's preoccupation with the dress she wore to court on Wednesday. "also, what i wear to court shouldnt be front page news. it's just absurd," she wrote.
