Tim McCormack -- the Long Beach bachelor ousted from the season premiere of "The Bachelorette" after apparently drinking too much and falling asleep on-camera -- said Thursday in a media conference call that he took full responsibility and was finding support from family and friends.
"I don't have any excuses," he said. "I don't have any reasons as to how that affected me and how that happened.
"Being around alcohol is a part of my life," because he works in sales for a liquor distributor, "and having that reaction to it I have to chalk up to adrenaline or nerves," he said.
McCormack said he thought he hadn't had that much to drink. "I had a toast or two in the limo," specifically vodka cocktails, on the way to the show's mansion set. "I can't go back and pinpoint an exact number of drinks I had to get to that point. . . . I definitely wasn't sitting in my hotel room drinking all day."
Given the apparently extreme reaction to the alcohol, is it possible that in the heat of competition his drink had been spiked?
"I would hate to think that, that would be a possibility," he answered. "If somebody did, God bless him, they got rid of me the first night."
McCormack added, "Everybody I know has been very nice about it, [saying] hang in there, it will pass, we know it's not you."
Both at home and in the workplace, he said: "I've been very lucky with the people around me. They've been very supportive."
