When Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller wed in 2008, the groom said of his previous marriages, "The first one was a show, the second one was a con, and this one is the real deal." Now that deal is unraveling as the "Two and a Half Men" star filed for divorce Monday.

The couple, whose twin boys, Bob and Max, were born in March 2009, have been living apart since an altercation Christmas morning last year in which Mueller, 33, told police that Sheen, 45, threatened her and brandished a knife. A source told People magazine Monday that Sheen would be filing divorce papers Monday. RadarOnline.com posted the document late Monday afternoon.

Sheen and Mueller in May had signed a settlement, said TMZ.com, which posted that public document online. In it, the two specify joint legal custody of the children, with Mueller having primary custody and Sheen visitation. The document says he will pay $55,000 a month in child support and, "under no circumstances shall the child support paid by Charlie for Bob and Max be less than the child support paid by Charlie to Denise Richards for Sam and Lola."

The divorce filing comes after a bizarre incident in Manhattan last week in which police found Sheen "irrational and intoxicated" in his room at the Plaza Hotel, and had him sent to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for observation. Mueller downplayed the incident, telling the TV show "Extra" last Thursday, "You know how things get blown out of proportion."

That was echoed by a statement Sheen's attorney gave to the program "Access Hollywood" Monday, saying, "While we understand that speculation is rampant and the rumors are running wild in the media, I can assure you that Charlie is doing quite well and that the incident of last week was blown way out of proportion."

Sheen's manager, Mark Burg, called a report Sunday by RadarOnline.com that Sheen was on a cocaine bender with prostitutes simply "fabricated lies."
