Charlie Sheen texted brief comments to two celebrity websites, responding to reports of his bizarre actions at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan early Tuesday morning. But his behavior remains unexplained.

"What are they saying?" he texted to an E! News writer before boarding a private jet home to Los Angeles. After being apprised, he texted back after landing, "I got nothing to say about it sweetie. Thank U for your concern . . . XO."

RadarOnline.com said that after he landed on Tuesday night he also texted an editor there, writing, "Oh my man, I'm fine" after being asked how he was after a police confrontation and being taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for a mental health evaluation. "The story is totally overblown and overplayed as far as the reality of the scenario," he insisted, according to the gossip site.

Meanwhile, Sheen was to be back at work this week, according to his manager. "Charlie will be working this week doing a cameo role, playing himself, in a small movie as a favor to a friend and has every intention of going back to work on 'Two and a Half Men' on Tuesday," Mark Burg told People magazine.

Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards, however, isn't talking. Richards told "Today" Wednesday: "The details of what went on in the room, what went on that night, I prefer to keep private and personal."

Sheen has had past problems with alcohol and drugs that have landed him in legal trouble.

In August, he pleaded guilty in Aspen, Colo., to misdemeanor third-degree assault after a Christmas Day altercation with his wife, Brooke Mueller Sheen. Prosecutors dropped more serious charges and he avoided jail time, instead sentenced to 30 days in a rehabilitation center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management.

Mueller Sheen, who is the mother of twins with Sheen, told police that the actor threatened to kill her and brandished a knife after she told him she wanted a divorce. Charlie Sheen said they argued but he denied threatening her, and he told police that he was upset by the divorce threat.

He previously went through a bitter divorce and custody battle with Richards. Her publicist said Tuesday she had no comment on Tuesday’s hotel encounter.

In December 1996, Sheen was charged with attacking a girlfriend at his Southern California home. He later pleaded no contest and was placed on two years of probation.

In 1998, his father, actor Martin Sheen, turned him in for violating parole after a cocaine overdose sent him to the hospital. He was ordered to undergo a rehabilitation program.
