In the wake of his separation from TV-star wife Courteney Cox, actor David Arquette checked himself into the Betty Ford Center, after first spending New Year's Eve partying in Hollywood.
A representative for Arquette - whose film credits range from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992) to his role as Dewey Riley in all three "Scream" movies and the upcoming fourth - confirmed the news Sunday to RadarOnline.com.
He is seeking treatment for alcohol and other issues but not drugs, according to TMZ.com, which first reported the story.
A source told the site Arquette was going into rehab because it's "the right thing to do for his family."
The youngest of the actor siblings Rosanna, Richmond, Patricia and Alexis Arquette, he separated in October from Cox, his wife of 11 years. The couple has one child, daughter Coco, 6.
"He's trying to win Courteney back, and he turned back to drinking again out of frustration," a source told Us magazine. "He is doing this to show her he means it and will do anything for her and Coco. He wants his family life back. It's been so hard on him."
"Rehab was inevitable," another source told People magazine. "He is dealing with a broken heart. He can't handle all the changes in his life. All his inner demons came out."
If he remains for the typical one-month treatment of many alcohol-recovery programs, Arquette will be out in time for his new side career as a nightclub party host.
He spent New Year's Eve at a preview for his new four-day-a-week "David Arquette Presents Beacher's Madhouse," which opens Feb. 14 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel - a bar environment that may not be conducive to sobriety.
