"E! News" co-host Giuliana Rancic -- who has survived a miscarriage, breast cancer and double mastectomy -- joined her husband and fellow reality-show star Bill Rancic Monday to announce they are having a baby.

The couple told E! Monday that their first child is due in late summer via gestational carrier, which differs from a surrogate in that the embryo implanted in the carrier is biologically that of the Rancics. The gestational carrier brings the baby to term but is genetically unrelated to the child.

Learning that their banked embryo had resulted in a pregnancy "was pretty much one of the best moments of my life, if not the best moment of my life," Giuliana Rancic told Ann Curry when the couple appeared on NBC's "Today." "We've been trying for so long, we've been through so much. We had such a hard year last year with the breast cancer and everything, and to finally get that call from the doctor. . . . It was just another world -- like, on another level."

The couple had had "two embryos that we had banked prior to learning about the breast cancer," Bill Rancic said. "And with the [cancer] medicine [Giuliana has] going on, this was our last effort."

The couple met their "baby mama," as Giuliana gratefully called the carrier, through the Colorado clinic where Giuliana had undergone in vitro fertilization treatments and gotten her cancer diagnosis. The couple's doctor "hooked us up with [an] agency and he helped us find her. And she's just a dream come true."

The woman, whom they did not identify, lives out of state. "So we go visit her every month, we go to all the doctors' appointments," Giuliana said. "So we see the baby growing and it's very exciting."

After all her health issues, she said, she has learned that "the more you focus on the positive, the more you are grateful for the good things in your life, the more good things come to you. And I've really seen that. I have a great husband, I have a wonderful family and now I have a baby on the way. I mean, what more can I ask for, really?"
